Kate was the lead developer of program content for Penn State’s “Child Sexual Abuse Conference:  Traumatic Impact, Prevention, and Intervention,” which took place on October 29-30, 2012 at the Penn Stater Conference Hotel at University Park, PA.  Dr. Staley is a licensed clinical psychologist and is also an Associate Staff Therapist for Penn State Counseling and Psychological Services where she does initial consultations and short term problem-solving oriented therapy with both undergraduate and graduate student clients.  Dr. Staley received her Ph.D. and Masters degrees from The Pennsylvania State University in Child-Clinical Psychology, and her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University.  She has served as a Research Scientist for The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness, has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology and communication sciences, and was the Penn State site Project Director for a two-site multimillion dollar NICHD-funded program grant studying the effects of rural poverty on the development of children.  Her research interests focus on exploring how early experiences impact children’s later development, including how early adverse experiences, such as exposure to family violence and child maltreatment, contribute to the development of vulnerabilities and, for some children, mental health issues.
