Miranda Galvin

Biography:
Miranda Galvin was a post-doctoral scholar for the Criminal Justice Research Center. Miranda worked closely with the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing in her postdoc with the CJRC, which is funded by the Commission. Miranda received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park, where her dissertation explored the prosecution and sentencing of white-collar cases in federal criminal court. She most recently completed a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Maryland under the direction of Dr. Peter Reuter focused on justice-involved pregnant women with opioid use disorders. Her work has appeared in Justice Quarterly and Criminology & Public Policy. Miranda’s research is largely centered on understanding the way in which cases enter and move through the justice system by unpacking the interdependent decisions made by offenders, victims, witnesses, and criminal justice agents. She is especially interested in white-collar crime and opioid use. She has experience with linking administrative datasets, panel data, longitudinal analysis, primary data collection, and survey research.
Miranda is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice at Towson University.
