The Restorative Justice Initiative (RJI) and the Students’ Restorative Justice Initiative, in partnership with Penn State colleges, departments, centers, and student organizations, are proud to announce that we will be hosting our 2nd annual Justice Education Week this year from April 23rd to April 29th. Justice Education Week is a week-long event that highlights prison reform, educational opportunities for justice-impacted individuals, reentry support in our local community, and more. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bettina Love, award-winning author and the Athletic Association Endowed Professor at the University of Georgia. Her writing, research, teaching, and educational advocacy work meet at the intersection of education reform, anti-racism, carceral studies, abolition, and Black joy. Dr. Love’s book “We Want to do More Than Survive,” uses the language of critical thinking with radical resistance to challenges and dares us all to teach for justice. Other events will include a restorative circle facilitator training, a reentry simulation, a panel from College Behind Bars, a Black Tea event by Tierra Williams called “Black Students. Black Teachers. White Schools.” an event with the Centre County Pardon Project, and a restorative circle about criminal justice in America.
